Welcome and Course Outline

Calculus 12 Introduction

Prerequisite: Math 12
Welcome to Calculus 12! You will learn about the four major concepts of calculus: the limit, the derivative, the definite integral and the indefinite integral. For each concept, you will learn the exact definition, have an intuitive understanding of it, be able to use the concept and apply it. You will learn about these concepts numerically, graphically, algebraically and verbally. Along the way, you will learn some of the history of calculus too.
*You need the following:
1.    Calculus 12: Concepts and Applications textbook (Rented)
2.    Graphing Calculator

To receive credit for Calculus 12, you will:
a)    Complete eight chapters and their exercises
b)   Write seven chapter tests (Chapters 7 and 8 are combined on one test)
c)    Write a final exam (you must score 50% to pass the course)

You will complete the following chapters:

Chapter 1

Limits, Derivatives and Integrals

4.    If you need more practice, complete the Concept Problems and practice Chapter Test. Ask your teacher for the answer key.

5.    Do a complete review of what you have learned in this chapter and ask a teacher for the Chapter 1 test. NOTE: Part 1 of the test is without a graphing calculator. Graphing calculators are allowed in Part 2.

4.    Read Sections 4-4. You ONLY need to know the derivative of the Tangent function. Do the following questions ONLY from the Problem Set: #1, 9, 15, 19, 23, 25, 31 (omit c), 33, 35 c.

5.    Read Sections 4-5. You ONLY need to know the derivatives of the inverse sine and tangent functions. Do the following questions from the Problem Set: #7, 13, 21, 23, 25.

6.    Read Sections 4-6. Do the Problem Set, including the Quick Review.
    NOTE: Complete only the ODD questions. OMIT #31.

7.    Read Sections 4-7. Do the Problem Set, including the Quick Review.

6.    Read Sections 5-6 starting from page 224 “Property : The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus”. Do the following questions from the Problem Set: #1 a, 3, and 7.

7.    Read Sections 5-7. Do the Problem Set, including the Quick Review.

8.    Read Sections 5-8. Do the Problem Set, including the Quick Review.

    NOTE: Complete only the ODD questions. OMIT #7, 11 and 29.

4.    Read Sections 6-4. Do the Problem Set, including the Quick Review.
    NOTE: Complete only the ODD questions. OMIT Quick Review #4, 9
     and 10.  OMIT: #0, 5 and 63.

5.    OMIT Section 6-5.

6.    Read Sections 6-6. Remember you only need to know the Integrals of the Sine and Cosine functions. Do the Problem Set. Complete only the ODD questions. OMIT #39.
